Do you want to discover the hidden secrets of the jungle at night? Join us for a two-day, one-night jungle trek to the famous Goa Kelawar, the jungle bat cave. You’ll sleep beneath the jungle canopy and meet animals who are most active after dark. You will also have the chance to encounter wild organutan, gibbons, monkeys and the Leuser Ecosystem’s incredible birdlife. The adventure ends with an exhilarating trip down the river on a traditional raft back to Tangkahan.

Who is the Bat Cave Jungle Trek for?

This trek is suitable for anyone who wants to explore the beauty of the jungle both day and night, and who is ready to take on the challenge of a longer walk and a night of wild camping. We provide all the equipment needed for an overnight camp in the jungle. 

Participants per trip:
  • Minimum   : 2 people
  • Maximum  : 8 people
 

Price: €120 / person

 
Note: If you are a solo traveler and prefer not to pay for an extra person, we can assign you to another group upon request.
 
  • Day 1
          9 am           = Pick up at your guesthouse in Tangkahan, introductions and equipment checks. 
          9.30 am     = Start an approximately 40 minutes walk to Gunung Leuser National Park entry point
         10.30 am   = The real trek begins! Observation of orangutans and other wildlife, with explanations about local trees and plants.
         11.30 am   = A short stop for a fruit drink. Continue walking deeper into the forest.
          1 pm          = Stop for lunch in the forest.
          2 pm         = Begin walk to Goa Kelawar Bat Cave. Explore inside the cave, observing bats in their natural habitat. Walk through the                                  cave and out the other side! 
          4 pm         = Arrive our campsite. As guides set up camp and start preparing dinner, guests are welcome swim, relax, enjoy tea or                                     coffee, and have a small snack.
           
         After dinner, relax, play games, or chat with your guide. Fall asleep to the soothing sounds of the jungle.
 
  • Day 2
          7 am           = Wake up, jungle breakfast, pack up camp
          8 am           = Start 3-4 hours jungle trek with stops wildlife viewing, tracking and survival skills lessons.
          1 pm           = Stop for lunch at a scenic spot by the Batang River
          2.30 pm     = Pack up, jump onto the river rafts and float back to Tangkahan!
          4 pm           = Return to you Tangkahan Guesthouse
